土工膜以塑料薄膜作为防渗基材，是一种高分子化学柔性材料，比重较小，延伸性较强，适应变形能力高，耐腐蚀，耐低温，抗冻性能好，具有较高的抗拉强度和延伸性，同时，它们对细菌和化学作用有较好的耐侵蚀性，不怕酸、碱、盐类的侵蚀，在避光使用情况下，使用寿命长达70年以上。
HDPE土工膜的铺设：
1. 铺设HDPE土工膜前应由土建工程相应的合格验收证明文件。
2. HDPE膜裁切之前，应该准确丈量其相关尺寸，然后按实际裁切，一般不宜按图示尺寸裁切，应逐片编号，详细记录在表格上。
3. 铺设HDPE土工膜时应力求焊缝少，在保证质量的前提下，尽量节约原材料。同时也容易保证质量。
4. 膜与膜之间接缝的搭接宽度一般不小于10cm，通常就使焊缝排列方向平行于坡度，即沿坡度方向排列。
5. 通常在拐角及畸形地段，应是接缝长度尽量减短。除特殊要求外，在坡度大于1：6的斜坡上距顶坡或应力集中区域1.5米范围内，尽量不设焊缝。
6. HDPE土工膜在铺设中，应避免产生人为褶皱，温度较低时，应尽量拉紧，铺平。
7. HDPE土工膜铺设完成后，应尽量减少在膜面上行走、搬动工具等，凡能对HDPE膜造成危害的物件，均不应放在膜上或携带在膜上行走，以免对膜造成意外损伤。
HDPE土工膜锚固方法：
1. 锚固的方法分为三种：沟槽锚固、射钉锚固和膨胀螺栓锚固；通常情况下，采用沟槽锚固。
2. 采用沟槽锚固时，视HDPE土工膜的使用条件及受力情况，其锚固沟槽宽度一般不小于0.5m-1.0m,其深度不得小于0.5m-1.0m。
3. 采用射钉锚固时，压条宽度不小于2cm，厚度不得小于2mm，射钉间距不应大于400mm，压条明露处应有防腐措施。
4. 采用膨胀螺栓锚固时，螺栓直径不小于4mm，其间距不大于0.5mm，施工时，先用备好的沙袋将摆好位置的膜临时固定，防止大风将HDPE土工膜吹动移位，然后再进行膨胀螺栓锚固。
